Minutes of Parent Council Meeting

30 March 2009

1. Present: Bernard Love (Headteacher and Adviser), Colin Findlay, Suzanne Graham, Bernadette Welsh, Louise Cunningham, Allan Baird, Jim McDermott, Margaret Dochnenko

Apologies: Gerry Boyle,  Fr Miller, Michelle Flanagan, Pat Davis, Robert Boyle

2. Opening Prayer: Colin opened the meeting with a prayer and extended a welcome to all present. A decade of the rosary was also said for the repose of the soul of Mrs Claire Kemlo who had died recently. Suzanne had represented the PC and PTA at the Requiem Mass.

 

3. Minutes of Previous meeting: 16 February 2009:

The minute of the previous meeting was accepted as accurate after the correction of a few spelling mistakes. Proposed by Louise and seconded by Margaret.

 

4. Matters Arising:

  • Quiz Night: going ahead on 24/4. Tickets now available at £5 each
  • Summer Ceilidh: Possible dates to be confirmed.
  • School Show: Will be on 15- 18 June.
  • Staff Changes: vacancies for Maths, Drama and English / Drama posts  closed today
    ICT Technician post closes on 31/3/09

 

 

5. General Correspondence:

  • National Parent Forum: update e-mail circulated
  • Incident in School: information was provided on an incident which took place within the school on 18/2 which resulted in some pupils being suspended. Appropriate action taken.
  • Invitation: Parent Conference: This was well attended by our PC and we were represented by Colin, Jim, Margaret and Suzanne. The presentations made at the conference have been requested from Jim Beers.

6. Headteacher's Report:

  • Patrons Day Mass: Was a very successful event and attended by Colin, Suzanne and Maureen Dunn.
  • Annual Survey Questionnaire circulated: 3 versions, one for staff, parents and pupils.
  • CfE presentation circulated: A full discussion took place.
 

7. Chaplain's Report:

Bernard Love advised that Fr Miller remains on a leave of absence at present and Fr Campbell has been helping out in his absence.

 

8. Treasurer's Report:

Nothing to report

 

9. PTA Report:

Quiz night: St Brides Hall 24/4/09. Tickets available and Colin asked that all of the PC help to promote this event

11. CfE:

Already covered in Rectors Report

 

12. Review of PS Catchment Areas:

The deadline for comments on this item has been extended to 12 June and will remain on agenda till then. A discussion took place with regard to effect this would have on OLHS roll and subsequent staff numbers. This item will be continued to next meeting

13. AGM 2009:

The constitution advises that the AGM should be held in May of each year. It was agreed that due to public holidays within this month our AGM will take place on Monday 8 June.

A motion was submitted by Colin Findlay, in line with the required notice period contained within the constitution that Item 10 be changed to now read “The AGM will be held as close to the end of the school year as is practically possible and should take place either in May or June depending on commitments during that period particular to that year.”

This was seconded by Suzanne Graham and will be circulated to all members of the Parent Forum together with the agenda and minutes two weeks prior to The AGM which is no later than Monday 25 May
