Our aim is to encourage all pupils In S1 pupils come to Our Lady's High School and are eager to have the chance to study art for two periods a week.
Basic colour theory is also reinforced and painting techniques learned to create a large painting that reflects what pupils have learned. All lessons are linked to looking at and discussing well known artists and designers. In S1 these include Jan van Eyck, Henri Rousseau, and Vivian Westwood. S1 pupils with their Fashion designs based on insects and printed into a scarf or tie. Pupils enjoy creating their own fashions and looked at the designer Vivian Westwood for inspiration. In S2 pupils work for one period a week and continue to e x plore the visual elements and exciting media such as printmaking based on architecture and ceramic tiles based on Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Pupils get the opportunity to create pottery and hand puppets as well as practice and improve upon their observational drawing skills. We strive for everyone to have an enjoyable and rewarding experience in the art and design department. Developing use of computer graphics and visits to museums and art galleries will hopefully lead to a full and well art educated pupil!
