Certificated Physical Education in S3 & S4

For those pupils who enjoy their experiences of PE in S1 and S2, there is the option of following a certificated PE course throughout their third and fourth years.

Intermediate Physical Education is the course that we follow in middle school, where pupil’s can be presented at either Intermediate 1 or Intermediate 2 level, with the latter being the more challenging of the two.

Throughout their two years of study, pupils will be involved in 5 different activities. The activities on offer may vary from class to class and pupil’s natural abilities will be taken into consideration when finalising activity choices. Pupils will play an active role in this decision making. We hope that this choice will allow them to score more favourably in their practical performance unit, which accounts for 50% of their overall course award.

The other 50 % of the pupils’ course award is made up of an Analysis of Performance Unit, which focuses on three areas:

  1. Preparation of the Body
  2. Structures and Strategies
  3. Skills and Techniques

Each of these areas gives insights into different aspects of sporting activities, all of which can help performers of all levels and provide stimulating material for all pupils.

An end of Unit test will be completed at the end of the 3rd block in order to monitor the progress of pupil’s and ensure that they are being presented at the correct level.
