![]() S1 & S2 Drama at The Drama Department aims to provide all pupils with opportunities to reach new understanding and appreciation of self, others and the environment through imaginative dramatic experience, while acquiring a range of dramatic skills and techniques. Pupils are encouraged to communicate ideas and feelings through language, expression and movement, in real and imaginary contexts, and develop confidence and self-esteem in their day-to-day interaction with others. Through drama, pupils develop sensitivity towards the feelings, opinions and values of others through purposeful interaction. The syllabus provides a wide range of units for study, allowing pupils to grow and develop in knowledge and understanding and in their appreciation of Drama. In accordance with the Scottish Government Education Department guidelines on the education of pupils in the early years of secondary school, each unit focuses on the assessment of particular skills. As one of the Expressive Arts, the guidelines state “pupils, regardless of age, aptitude or social circumstances [should] enjoy an educational experience in the expressive arts which is coherent, continuous and challenging”. This is currently the objective of the Drama Department for the teaching and learning of S1 and S2 Drama. Please note that the Drama Department is reviewing the courses at S1 and S2 in accordance with A Curriculum for Excellence. |
