University and College Applications

All sixth year pupils wishing to attend university or college next year must apply through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service). UCAS is the central organisation that processes applications for full-time undergraduate courses at UK universities and colleges.

All UCAS applications must be made online, so this week our many candidates began to register, one House at a time, using the Library Resource Centre's computer suite.

Each pupil has to complete their UCAS application over the next couple of months. This involves a lot of research - looking through the Careers Library, checking out prospectuses and discussing their choices with school staff and the Careers Advisor, Ruth Robertson.

Other pupils have been printing application forms for the colleges which prefer direct applications.

Any pupil who has not registered for UCAS should contact Mrs Mulholland or their Pupil Support Teacher or see Mrs Macfadyen in the LRC.

School Band Summer Trip

The School Band, comprising approx 50 pupils recently enjoyed a trip to Valkenburg in Holland in June this year.

The band performed two concerts; one in Vaals and one in Maasterich.

Pupils and staff also enjoyed a number of excursions to Cologne , Vaals maze, De Efteling Theme Park as well as tobogganing and laser quest excursions.

All pupils and staff had a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

School Website

The redesigned School Website has been relaunched!

The site now includes a large number of exciting new sections, including extensive information on our work with our Faith Sharing Community in Kamwokya.

Other new developments currently in progress include a Guided Tour of the school created by the Enterprise Group, news and photographs of school activities, staff information and a variety of links to other educational sites. The home page also includes a diary of forthcoming events at the school.

We would be very grateful to receive comments on the website, or ideas for its future development. We would be particularly delighted to receive former pupils’ memories of the school.

Both ideas and comments can be communicated by clicking the ‘Webmaster’ link on the site, or by phoning the school’s LRC Manager, Mrs Jennifer Macfadyen directly.

The website address is www.ourladyshighschool.co.uk. We’d love to hear from you!

SQA exams

As most of you will know already, the SQA exam results are due soon. In fact, the brown envelopes will be dropping through doors on August 8th.

If you wish to alter your subject choices as a result of your SQA results, please visit the school any time during the morning of Wednesday 9th August for subject choice interviews.

Good luck to all of you. Here's wishing you all get the results you worked so hard for.

1st August 2006
Mr McKendrick

For those of you who didn't know yet, Mr McKendrick returned safe and sound from the USA having been launched a few times by NASA to several hundred metres in the air and then dropped like a bullet. He says it was brilliant! (Do not try this at home!)

Mr McKendrick should now be known as Commander.
