27th October 2006
Scottish Parliament visit

Upper School pupils and Partnership Officers enjoyed a trip to the Scottish Parliament for the Futures Forum, organised by Dialogue Youth Scotland.

Scottish pupils from as far afield as Orkney took part in role-play and other activities designed for looking ahead to life in the future.

The day may have been fun, but the subject matter was serious: themes included pensions and savings.

25th October 2006
Hallowe'en Disco

Congratulations to S6 on organising a superb Hallowe'en disco for first year pupils.

Party goers enjoyed a variety of quizzes, dooking for apples and competitions, with prizes for best costume.

We may show photos we can get people to admit who's who!

Congratulations!

Many congratulations to Dean Ford of 2S for his success in the Combat Champions League Tournament at Perth.

Dean received a Bronze medal in the Intermediate Kickboxing, competing against opposition from around the whole of the UK.

Breast Cancer Awareness

A coffee morning was held in the school staff room on Friday 13th October in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Photo: Office staff dressed in pink from head to waist for the Breast Cancer Awareness coffee morning fundraiser.

The Office Staff not only organised the event, but also donated prizes and involved the senior pupils in selling raffle tickets throughout the school.

Many staff (men and women) wore pink to match the pink food. The Office Staff looked especially fetching in candy pink wigs!

In total, the grand total of £456.70 was raised and will be donated to Breast Cancer Care. Lucky raffle winners have been contacted to collect their pink prizes.

Many congratulations to the Office Staff for organising this excellent event.

They would like to thank the school community and parents for their support for what is a very worthwhile cause.

6th October 2006
Scottish Youth Theatre

Scottish Youth Theatre came to the school for an afternoon of Drama activities with groups from S2-S6 today.

This visit is an important step for the Drama department in terms in working alongside professional organisations.

5th October 2006
Geography Fieldtrip

S4 Geographers went on a field trip to Moffat where they carried out Geography fieldwork.

This included a river study and a shopping survey. Despite the weather the class worked hard to gather information and will then process the information in class.

3rd October 2006
Road Relay Race

The PE department has been involved with a number of successful events of late.

OLHS teams entered in the North Lanarkshire Road Relay Championships today. The four members of each team ran 1500m, making a combined 6 km relay race. Our Lady's came 3rd overall.

At the recent triathlon, Our Lady's entered three teams, all of whom did very well.

At both this event and the recent triathlon, sixth year pupils completing the CSLA certificate were involved in the organisation.

Their assistance has been so well received that the pupils have been specially invited to take part in the Supercounty Triathlon.

Congratulations to all our successful athletes!

Investigative Drama Presentations

On Wednesday night, the Higher Drama class presented their first performances to a small specially invited audience.

All of the scenes were written, acted and directed by the students themselves – challenging for this group in particular since none of the students has participated in Drama classes previously.

And just to add to the tension, these performances were assessed for their Investigative Drama unit. Well done to all pupils involved.

1st October 2006
New undergraduates

From all the staff at Our Lady's High School - a message for our pupils starting at college and university.

We have enjoyed your company for the last few years and watched you grow up into independent, responsible young adults.

Hopefully, your years at OLHS will help you through the strange new worlds of further and higher education. It's been fun! Good luck to all of you and keep in touch.
