Viking links and resources (Our Lady's High School, Motherwell, Scotland)

This is a series of lessons which is based in the LRC and the purpose is to teach pupils that our view of the Vikings is a stereotype.
There were many sides to this group of people who settled in Scotland and across the British Isles.

Lesson 1

Pupils work in pairs and use the textbooks to find evidence of the Vikings as:

Raiders
Traders
Explorers
Farmers
Religious People
Craftsmen

Information literacy: skimming, scanning, indexes, keywords, photographs

Viking websites

Lessons 2 and 3

The class divides into six groups with each group taking one theme from lesson 1.

The task is to work together and use as many sources of evidence as possible to create an information poster on the Vikings.
